Leaky Gut Syndrome

What is Leaky Gut?

In a nutshell Leaky Gut Syndrome is a problem that occurs on the microscopic level of the intestines. In Leaky Gut the intestinal lining becomes hyperpermeable or porous. This is a problem not visible by the naked eye or an endoscope. It is a microscopic problem.

Leaky Gut, Food Sensitivities and Food Allergies

Leaky Gut usually goes hand in hand with food sensitivities and food allergies. Since there are microscopic particles leaking into the blood stream through the gut lining, the immune system usually gets involved.

Causes of Leaky Gut Syndrome

The causes of Leaky Gut syndrome are numerous. One prevalent cause is the use of NSAID's. NSAID's are a class of pharmaceutical drugs which are anti-inflammatory. NSAID stands for Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug. A common NSAID is Naproxen. People who have had tendonitis (inflammation of the tendons) will often get prescribed NSAID's. Tennis elbow is a common tendonitis problem for which the use of NSAID's are prescribed. In actuality tendonitis is mostly caused by a poorly functioning liver! See more Signs of Liver Difficulty.

The other major cause is a disturbance of the good bacteria in the gut. The good bacteria or flora in the gut which keeps others at bay or in check. This disturbance is usually caused by taking antibiotics.

Leaky Gut, Chemical and Environmental Sensitivities

Leaky Gut is a difficult condition to heal properly! The reason is that to Heal Leaky Gut you will need to support both the Liver and your Pancreas. Also offending foods, chemicals, and perfumes or other strong scents will need to be avoided.

Most people with chronic fatigue and chemical or environmental sensitivities have a leaky gut.

Exposure to further chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or other irritants may prevent healing the gut.

Healing Leaky Gut

Special supplements are needed to heal the gut. Often these supplements feed the lining of the gut whilst supporting other organs to detoxify the body of poisons.

Removing offending foods is also necessary to heal the gut.
